Barcelona defender Dani Alves has revealed in a sensational interview that former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola was extremely keen on coaching the Brazilian national team at the World Cup 2014.

Brazil were looking for a new coach the start of the time when Guardiola left Barcelona after an immensely successful spell. There were immediate rumours suggesting that the Catalan manager would be open to the possibility of coaching Brazil. It would have made a perfect unison of two ideologies that have always been similar. Brazil want to play a beautiful brand of football and it is also the opinion of Guardiola.

The former Barcelona captain is widely regarded to have revolutionised the game with his Barcelona team of 2011. Alves was part of the team and his attacking runs were an integral part in helping free of space for Lionel Messi, who ended up scoring most of the goals for the team. A similar tactic with Neymar playing on the left could have been excellent for Brazil, but the South American team immediately opted for Luiz Felipe Scolari and not for a foreign manager. Brazil rarely go in the direction of a foreign manager and this was proved once again. Alves has now revealed that Guardiola had a master plan to get the sixth World Cup title for Brazil.

"Pep said he wanted to make Brazil a World Cup champion and had an entire strategy to make us a world champion. But they didn't want it, because they said that they didn't know if Brazil would accept a foreign coach. Pep is the best coach in the world, the greatest sports manager I've ever seen. He revolutionised football, revolutionised a team, and we had the chance to have him with us. If you let an opportunity like this go by then you are not really thinking about the national team," said Alves.
