DANI ALVES CRUCIAL TO JUVENTUS’ UCL DREAM

Former Barcelona defender DaniAlves has proven himself crucial to the UEFA Champions League dream of Juventus.

The Brazilian proved this with his brilliant display in the semi-final clash with Monaco. He contributed both assists that helped Gonzalo Higuain net a brace against the youthful French side. They go into the return leg at home with full confidence as they are almost assured of a favourable result.

Late last year, Alves injured his ankle as he clashed with an Argentinean winger Lucas Ocampos in the match against Genoa. He had to be taken off a stretcher as his leg was broken. Some would believe that would be the end for the 33-year old hard working player. In three months, Alves returned to action for the Serie A side. Since his move to the Bianconeri, his display against Monaco in the first leg of the semis was arguably his best performance yet.

The Juve defence snuffed out the attacking line of Monaco with their dedication and they made a push that might have sent them to the final against a likely Madrid side. Even the teenage star KylianMbappe that European sides are falling over each other to sign – Manchester United reportedly made a move of about £75 million and there are reports that Chelsea and Real Madrid could offer much more – was cut out even though he still made some efforts.

Paulo Dybala, who was the man that sent Barcelona out, sent a well-timed pass to DaniAlves in the 59th minute. The former Barca star, after a glance, sent a near perfect chip that Higuain easily buried past Monaco keeper DanijelSubasic. The cross was magnificent and it was the move that buried Monaco.

Alves with four assists is behind Cristiano Ronaldo with five, OusmaneDemebele with six and Barcelona star Neymar with eight. Alves deserved the Man of the Match award he picked up as he showed he could very well be the man to deliver the Champions League title.
