BARCELONA KEEN ON GETTING VALENCIA’S CANCELO

Barcelona are reportedly discussing with Valencia with the hope that they can reach an agreement to swap players.

Barcelona are keen on Portuguese full back Cancelo, based on news report from Radio Valencia. Aleix Vidal and Joan Cancelo are the players to be swapped by both sides, particularly as Vidal has struggled to break into the Barca squad since his move from Sevilla last year.

Dani Alves left Barcelona to join Serie A giant Juventus this summer, yet Vidal has found it difficult to break through. Sergi Roberto has established himself as the club’s first choice right back under current coach Luis Enrique. This means Vidal would have to exit the side if Cancelo is to join. Valencia have been reported to be keen on the 27-year old as he is set to be axed next summer if not January. Hence the discussions if a swap deal would be mutually beneficial.

Atletico Madrid defeated Valencia this weekend in the La Liga, and Barcelona’s sporting director Robert Fernandez was at the stadium to watch Cancelo play. Cancelo is ahead of Martin Montoya in the pecking order at the Mestalla. Fernandez is willing to take away more players having already signed Andre Gomes and Paco Alcacer this summer.

In other news, Alves says he is hopeful of European success with Juventus this term. The serial Serie A champions have dominated the local league for long, and are keen on European success after reaching the final in 2015.

“Juventus are an excellent side and are capable of taking on anyone in Europe. With that quality comes the expectation of going all the way in every competition and, step by step, we can do it.

“Of course it won’t be easy, just like becoming domestic champions or winning every match possible, but this is what you expect from a club like Juve,” said Alves.
